Bethany Church

Bethany History

Bethany Church in Union Street Newport was built in 1976, after larger premises were required by the growing numbers of Christians wishing to gather and worship together.

The original Bethany Church building is still in Newport and is located on Coppins Bridge roundabout (the big roundabout at the Newport end of the dual carriageway).
The building is occupied by the Newport Elim group who moved in 1976 as they also needed larger premises for their services, they still meet and worship in the original Bethany Hall.

Although the main Bethany Church was built in 1976, there was an original house at the town end of the site, which was built in 1843. The house has undergone many renovations since it was built and has now been converted (apt phrase for an evangelical church) to incorporate rooms for our Sunday school, general meeting rooms, clubs and Catalyst Cluster.

Bethany are particularly pleased to offer part of the first floor accommodation of the Homestead to The Isle of Wight Youth for Christ who have their office there.
